Nuby Super Straw Easy Grip Sippy - Cup

Nuby Super Straw Easy Gripthese are wonderful. they're great for transitioning from nursing because of the soft straw, but they're also good for older kids. i've been using them since my son was 18 months, and he's over three and still enjoys them for car rides etc. you can use the inner straw for upright drinking, or remove it to tip and sip :-) the only downfall is that the silicon parts tend to wear out, and i've been unable to find replacements. otherwise, sturdy, no leak, easy to clean, and durable.

We bought every kind of sippy cup on the market and while my tot took to the Dr. Brown's cups at first, straw cups wound up being the ONLY kind of cup she will use! There are a handful of straw cups on the market, but these are my favorite and I'll tell you why...

1. Price: These are as low as $2 in my local stores. ($1.99 at Baby Depot, $2.49 at Wal-Mart, etc.) The only other straw cups cheaper are the Take & Toss and those are not spill resistant. So, these cups are easy to replace. While I haven't been able to find replacement nipples, at this price, I can just buy more cups and recycle the old ones.

2. Ease of use: We have tried other cups and the odd shaped nipples are difficult to get in and out of the odd shaped lids. Insulated cups are too clunky and not necessary for us as out kid doesn't sip at her drinks but is done well before it has time to reach room temperature. Flip top lids are a huge pain to wash and none of these pieces fit in standard dishwasher baskets well. With these cups on the other hand, they assemble and wash almost exactly like her Playtex drop-ins bottles. 5 nipples fit with plenty of room in the basket, the lid are just rings, and the straws go in the straw slots. I'll link our basket Munchkin Deluxe Dishwasher Basket, Colors May Vary And they are easy for her to carry.

3. Durable: My kid is rough on things. These are dropped from shopping carts, fall off counters, washed in the dishwasher on high heat, and she chews on the silicone straw part of the nipple and it has never broken off or anything like that, nor have any of the cups ever cracked. We've been using the same cups for about 4 months now, and we started with only 2 in rotation, and as of today we have 9. Every other cup we bought, even the expensive ones, are sitting in a bag under the sink because we did not like them for one reason or another.

4. Spill-proof-ish: They aren't going to pour all over like some cups, but sometimes they can spill a tiny bit. You see, the straw part of the nipple has two valves and if my kid sucks liquid past the bottom valve and then removes the cup from her mouth, the liquid can leak out of the top valve. But other than that, no, it isn't going to leak so long as the nipple is sealing into the ring all the way around like a bottle.

My only complaints are that I don't like her drinking mostly from plastic, even if it is BPA free, and I don't like that the rings are different colors. I had to buy one of each so that I could match them up green/green, red/red, yellow/yellow, pink/pink, blue/blue, but I was still stuck with a purple cup with an orange lid. But I know these aren't big enough issues to count off a star, so I didn't.

We got an earlier version of this product that we liked really well. It had the same straw and silicone top, but the straw portion was shaped like an 8. The ones that we bought most recently have a round straw portion.

About a week after we bought one, our daughter dropped it on the linoleum in our kitchen from toddler-height (not very high off the ground). It cracked horribly. (See picture)

We figured that it was a fluke. We convinced ourselves that it must have just been a problem with that one. So we bought another. This one lasted only two days. Again, our daughter dropped it and it cracked just like the previous.

If you have a toddler who drops or throws their cup, this is not a product for you.

We have had and used these cups for about a year. My son loves them. They get all sorts of abuse-anything from trips down the slide to tumbling down the stairs to dropping on the concrete. All of them are still in great shape. They are easy to clean if you buy a sippy straw cleaner or pipe cleaner. The only downfall is not being able to order replacements of the soft nipple/straw part. He bit through a few of them and the rest are starting to wear out and you can't get replacement parts. They are the same size as the original sippy from nubby, so I guess I will replace with those and use for baby #2.

On the very first day of using this cup, my daughter dropped it once and the cup cracked almost completely in half.
